Xylophone Bear

This is not a product, but it's here because it was so fun to work on. Our group at HP had a unique blend of software, electrical, and mechanical engineers, and each year we constructed a one-of-a-kind gadget for Christmas. Examples were a high-wire Santa on a unicycle, a full-sized drummer soldier, and two bears dispensing candy. For my year, we created the Xylophone Bear, who could play a number of different Christmas carols on the xylophone. The Bear could rotate using a stepper motor, strike using rotary solenoids, and was controlled by an HP desktop computer.
